Season opener a draw: Labatt Blue tied the Red Storm in its season opener at Vallco October 13. Just as in its preseason game against the New Enforcers, Labatt was never separated from its opponent by more than one goal in this closely fought match. [Pictures]

Highlights:

• The Labatt squad fought through several injuries on the ice, with two players leaving the game for attention from the Cupertino Fire Department paramedics (banging sticks for Gary and Farooz, with an honorable mention to Dave who soldiered on)

• Substitute goalie Steve provided an outstanding performance in net

• Scoring was spread out, with contributions coming from every line

New teammate lights the lamp: Rob Casetti got off to a great start for Labatt, scoring just over 6 minutes into the game to tie things up at 1-1. Rob is a great addition to the team and brings the roster up to 13 skaters plus 1 goalie. Speaking of goalies: Labatt's permanent netminder is scheduled to debut October 20 vs. the New Enforcers (details, like name, to follow).

Injury update (10/14/02): Farooz expects to miss 2+ games, depending on the full extent of his ankle injury. Seems like just a sprain, but there may be some torn ligaments. He will definitely be missed. On a more positive note, Gary reports that he has been given a "clean bill of health" and will be back on the ice for our next game. This is great news, especially with several players unavailable for Labatt's next two contests.

Other E-league action: Voon Wong reports that the New Enforcers "lit it up" against Strychnine 10-4 in late Sunday night action (October 13). Expect a tough game against this team on October 20.
