Strychnine hard to swallow: Seeking to avenge their loss three weeks earlier to Labatt, Strychnine roared out of the gate with three early goals on their way to a 7-3 victory January 26 at San Mateo. Frequent defensive breakdowns and overly aggressive play in the offensive zone by Labatt gave Strychnine just what they needed to put the heat on goalie Rick Seis. Neither team showed Rick any mercy as the Strychnine skaters practiced their breakaways.

Wha' happened? Miss Cleo's psychic hotline went white-hot with callers asking the question "Wha' happened to them Labatts?" Somber soothsaying, inquiring incantations, and mystic mulling filled the heads of Labatt players trying to understand how Strychnine could score so many goals. Time travelers went back three weeks to see if there were any clues in the last game between these two teams, but came back with little. "We saw the same Labatt players, except for Joel Maki, but we sure didn't see the same team" was all they could say.

Alfano, Denton threatening: Strychnine took more than the air out of Labatt's sails -- they also put an end to Rob Cassetti's 8-game points streak. Matt Alfano and Craig Denton each lengthened their own streaks to four games, and with four more matches left in the regular season Cassetti's record isn't safe yet. The latest rumor is that Rob has purchased a wood rasp and is offering to sharpen Matt's and Craig's skates before the next game.
