Winter 2002-2003 Regular Season
Goalies awesome in 1-0 duel: Supported by a solid team effort on defense, goalie Rick Seis held E-League powerhouse Red Storm to their lowest scoring game this season. Unfortunately, Labatt's offensive effort came up short against strong play from opposing goalie Debbie Nishahara, who handed the Blue their first shutout loss. Defensive attitude, system effective: Labatt's recent top-secret late-night strategy session clearly had a positive impact on their defensive play. D-zone positioning made it difficult for the Storm to set up effectively, Labatt blueliners broke up nearly every opposing rush, and forwards backchecked with gusto. This was all made possible by short, hard shifts and an overall commitment to team defense. Gary stands tall: Besides playing a great game on defense, Gary Pagdilao stood tall in support of Rick in goal when he stepped in following a scramble at the net. Both Rick and Gary took roughing minors, while Red Storm players took away a roughing minor, a 10-minute misconduct, and a message about messing with Labatt's goalie. Rob rests easy: With Craig Denton and Matt Alfano kept off the scoresheet, Rob Cassetti's season-high 8-game points streak is assured of taking home top honors for the season. Great job, Rob!
