Vallco Drama Ends in Tie: Labatt Blue and Strychnine battled November 24 in a game sporting clutch goals, parades to the penalty box, and the Cupertino Fire Department. In the end, both squads had put 5 in the net and earned some quality time at the Swedish massage parlor.

Labatt gave up a season-high 37 shots on goal, took 10 trips to the box (nine minors and one 10-minute misconduct), and lost star player Gary Pagdilao to injury. Frequent penalties and Gary's departure led to disjointed line combinations, occasional confusion on the bench, and a bit of frustration in the air. Not a winning formula against the #1 team in the league.

Yet, with three first-time goal scorers, two last-second tallies, confidence on the blueline, and really fantastic play in net, the Blue worked to pull out a tie. The climax of the evening came when Rob Cassetti knotted the score with just 2 seconds left in the game (extending Rob's goal-scoring streak to 3 games).

Three players get first tally: With just 1 second left in the first period, Craig Denton put the Blue up 1-0 with his first goal of the year. In the second period, Julie Stephenson was in the right place at the right time to knock in a rebound from Paul Gibson's initial shot. And in the third, Farooz Alikhan found paydirt with some help from Matt Alfano (marking Matt's first assist for the season).

Gary has a thick skull: Thankfully, the injury report on Gary is "all is well." Medical researchers took advantage of this rare opportunity to study Gary more closely and shoved him into the CT scanner. To their amazement, they discovered what we knew all along: Gary has an incredibly thick skull! His exceedingly dense noggin accounts for much, and now we have the data to prove it. Gary, the entire team wishes you a healthy Thanksgiving holiday and looks forward to seeing you back skating (not laying) on the ice!
