Winter 2002-2003 Regular Season
Game #8 December 8, '02

Blue lose a squeaker: After falling 3-0 to the New Enforcers at San Mateo on December 8, Labatt fought back hard, losing in the end 3-2. With a complete roster in attendance, Labatt cycled three full lines and 5 defenseman, improving steadily as the game went on. In the end, it was only strong goaltending from the opposing netminder that saved the win for the Enforcers.

Rob's streak now at 5: Rob Cassetti opened the scoring for Labatt, tallying for the fifth game in a row. Opposing teams have begun searching through the garbage outside Cassetti's home, looking for Rob's magic formula. It's not there, folks; Rob's magic is in his hands, his legs, and his determination to help his team win.

One goal, no ambulance: Returning to the ice for the first time since being carted off for a CT scan, Gary Pagdilao not only played a strong, crisp defensive game, he also scored for the Blue. Taking advantage of an opportunity to rush up ice, Gary showed why Labatt surrendered two first-round draft picks to bring him to the Peninsula (though he still refuses to give up his East-bay home).

Captain's 3 Stars of the Game:
1. Rob Cassetti (team record 5-game scoring streak)
2. Gary Pagdilao (goal, good work on the blueline)
3. Farooz Alikhan (solid as first-time center, had his line flying)

Mid-season review

Labatt ends the first half of their inaugural season with a record of 0-6-2. Every player has shown continued improvement on the ice, and we are all to be congratulated for our effort in developing as individual players and for our commitment to the team.

With a several week break, this is a great time to gain some perspective on our play thus far, and look for ways to improve. It's a given that each of us should be working on individual skills, and there's not much mystery about what those are. What we need to do together is review our team play and look for changes that will make us more effective on the ice.

There is a new topic area, "On the ice," in the Labatt Blue discussion board. This is a great place to begin a team dialog about our strengths and weaknesses, focusing on how to prioritize areas of improvement in the second half of the season.

Best holiday wishes to everyone.
