Winter 2002-2003 Regular Season
Labatt reaches victory! In their 9th regular season game and third matchup with the dreaded Strychnine, Labatt Blue achieved victory for the first time. The January 5 showdown in San Mateo ended 4-2, making the Blue undefeated in 2003. Blue play, win as a team: More than ever, Labatt displayed a commitment to team defense, keeping their shifts short, making crisp line changes, and coming back defensively to prevent odd-man rushes. The end result was no even-strength goals against and a consistent beginning-to-end effort. Sharp goaltending and a great job keeping loose pucks from the front of the net topped the overall defensive effort. Nifty trick, shifty streak: Joel Maki put three pucks in the net for Labatt's first regular season hat trick (Gary Pagdilao had previously done this in the pre-season exhibition game). Rob Cassetti's 5-game goal streak shifted to a 6-game points streak, as he registered no goals but assisted on the opening score of the game (by Craig Denton).
